How to make a QR code for Wi-Fi
Spelling out a Wi-Fi password is slow and error-prone. A Wi-Fi QR code lets most recent phones join with one tap after scanning.
There is one catch: the code holds the network name and password inside the picture, so it works like a static code and cannot be edited later.
How do I make a Wi-Fi QR code?
A Wi-Fi code stores a short line of text in this form:
- WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetworkName;P:YourPassword;;
- T is the security type (WPA for most networks, or nopass for an open one).
- If the name or password contains a semicolon, comma, colon, quote or backslash, put a backslash before it.
- Add H:true if the network name is hidden.
Can I use the free generator on this site?
Yes. The free generator accepts any text. Paste the line above in the box, delete the https:// that starts there, and download the code. Test it on both an iPhone and an Android phone. Your password is never sent to us, because the code is drawn in your browser.
Is it safe to share my Wi-Fi password this way?
Anyone who scans the code gets the password. Use a separate guest network, change the password when needed, and print a new code when you do. A static Wi-Fi code cannot be redirected, so a changed password means a new print.
What about the dynamic code?
Our dynamic code opens a web page, not a Wi-Fi join. It is useful if you want a page with the network name, password and house rules that you can update.

The free generator is free. A dynamic page code is $3 once.
Will the code join a hidden network?
Yes, if you add H:true. Test it.
What if I change the router?
Print a new code if the name or password changes.
