QR codes for hotels, B&Bs and guest rooms
Guests ask the same five things within an hour of arriving: the Wi-Fi password, breakfast hours, check-out time, where to park, and where to eat. A card in the room with one code answers all of them without a call to the front desk.
Because your code is dynamic, the printed cards stay in the rooms while you change what they open: a seasonal menu, a holiday schedule, a new restaurant tip.
This is a dynamic QR code: $3 once, and you can change where it points at any time without reprinting. How that works
What should a hotel room QR code link to?
One page works better than five codes. Open a single guest page with the essentials at the top and local tips below.
| Guest need | Put on the page | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|
| Get online | Wi-Fi name and password, with a copy button | Top |
| Plan the morning | Breakfast hours, check-out time, late check-out request | Next |
| Get around | Parking, shuttle, a map link, taxi number | Middle |
| Eat and explore | Short list of places you actually recommend | Bottom |
Where should the card go in the room?
The bedside table, the desk and the back of the room door are where guests already look. A card on the pillow at turn-down gets seen, but it can also get thrown away, so print it on sturdy stock.
Make the code at least 3 cm (1.2 inches) square on a card guests hold in their hands, with a plain white border.
Can a QR code replace a printed guest directory?
It can replace the part that changes: hours, menus and event lists. Keep the essentials that matter in an emergency, such as the front desk number and fire exit information, printed in the room as well. Nobody should need a signal or a charged phone to find those.
- Print the front desk number next to the code.
- Keep safety information on paper.
How do I keep a QR code from being swapped for a fake one?
Public places sometimes see stickers placed over real codes. Use cards in a holder or laminated sleeve, check them at room turnover, and tell guests in the page's first line that the page belongs to your property.
Example signs
Each example code opens threedollarqrcode.com. Your code can open any page you choose.
Questions
Do guests need an app to scan?
No. The phone camera reads it.
Can I show different pages for different rooms?
Yes, if you buy a separate code for each. One code for the whole property is simpler and easier to update.
What if the Wi-Fi password changes?
Edit the page the code opens, or change the address in your private edit link. The cards stay the same.
Is it good for a small B&B with three rooms?
Yes. One card design, one code, and you update it from your phone.
Does it work for guests who don't speak English?
The code opens whatever page you point it at. Link to a page with a language switcher or a simple multi-language layout.
Do I pay per scan?
No. It is $3 once, with no per-scan fee.
