QR codes for walking tours, food tours and tour guides

Tour guides live on word of mouth and walk-up customers. A sign that the guide holds up at the meeting point, with a code that opens the booking page, turns curious passers-by into customers.

Self-guided versions work too: a code at each stop opens a short story, a photo and the way to the next stop.

This is a dynamic QR code: $3 once, and you can change where it points at any time without reprinting. How that works

What should a walking tour QR code open?

It depends who is scanning.

How do I use QR codes on a self-guided tour?

Put a numbered marker at each stop, with a code that opens that stop's page. Keep each page to a minute of reading, add a photo from the same spot and give directions to the next stop. Test the full route yourself, with the signal you will have on the street.

Will tourists scan a QR code from a guide's sign?

Yes, especially if the sign says what they get, such as "Scan for today's tours and prices". Hold it at chest height and make the code at least 15 cm (6 inches) square for a few steps' distance.

What about roaming data costs for visitors?

Visitors from abroad may avoid data. Keep pages light, offer a printed map for those without data, and tell guests if free Wi-Fi is available at your meeting point.
