QR codes for pet tags and lost items
A lost pet or bag needs to reach its owner fast, and a tag has little room for text. A QR code on a collar tag or luggage label opens a page with the details you choose, so a finder can reach you in a moment.
Because the code is dynamic, you can change those details when your phone number or situation changes, without replacing the tag.
This is a dynamic QR code: $3 once, and you can change where it points at any time without reprinting. How that works
What the page should show
Keep it short: your name, a button to call or text, and a short message such as 'I'm lost, please call my owner.' If your pet needs medication, add that in a line.
Remember that anyone who finds the tag can read the page. Show a phone number or a call button rather than your home address, unless you're comfortable with anyone seeing where you live.
Making a tag that lasts
A tag lives a rough life, so make it tough.
- Make the code at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) square, with a clear border around it.
- Use a durable tag material and a protective coating, so scratches and water don't blur the pattern.
- Engrave or print your phone number on the tag as well, in case the code can't be scanned.
- Scan the tag every few months, and replace it if the code is scratched.
Keep the details current
When you move, change your number, or add a second contact, update the page instead of buying a new tag. The code on the tag never changes.
A tag adds to other protection, not replaces it
A tag can't replace a microchip, and a microchip can't be read by an ordinary phone. Use both, and keep your microchip registration up to date.

Each example code opens threedollarqrcode.com. Your code can open any page you choose.
Questions
Does the tag replace a microchip?
No. A microchip and a tag do different jobs. Use both.
Will it still work if the tag gets scratched?
Heavy scratches can stop a code scanning. Use a durable tag, test it every few months, and engrave your phone number as a backup.
Can I keep my address private?
Yes. The page shows only what you put on it, so you can leave your address off.
