QR codes for yard and garage sales
Yard sale signs are read from a moving car, with room for about five words. A QR code on the sign at your driveway can open a page with the address, the hours, and a list of the big items for sale.
Pay $3 for a code you can reuse for every sale. Change the page, or point the code at a new one, and keep the same sign.
This is a dynamic QR code: $3 once, and you can change where it points at any time without reprinting. How that works
Put the code where people stop
A driver can't scan a code safely at speed. Keep the arrows and the street address on the road signs in large plain letters, and put the QR code where shoppers are already stopped or walking.
- At the end of your driveway, where people park and walk up.
- On the front of your table, where shoppers stand.
- On flyers on community boards and in neighborhood groups, where people have time to scan.
- Make the code 8 to 12 inches wide on a sign read from the curb.
What the page should list
Put the address, the dates and hours, parking notes, and the payment methods you accept at the top. Below that, list the big items, such as furniture, tools, and bikes, with a photo of the best ones.
Shoppers drive further for a sale when they know something they want is there, so the list of big items is the part that earns the scan.
Update it during the sale
Mark big items as sold, announce a price drop in the afternoon, or add a note about rain. Because the page is yours to edit, shoppers always see the current version without you changing the sign.
Reuse it next time
Keep the same sign and the same code. Before the next sale, update the page or point the code at a new one. Check your town's rules on yard sale permits and where signs may go.
