QR codes for bars, breweries and taprooms
A tap list changes more often than any printed menu can keep up with. A code on the coaster or table tent opens a page you update the same day a keg kicks, without reprinting anything.
Taprooms also have events, merch and mailing lists to promote. One code per placement lets you point each at the right page and see which spots people actually scan.
This is a dynamic QR code: $3 once, and you can change where it points at any time without reprinting. How that works
What should a bar or brewery QR code link to?
Link to a mobile-friendly tap list or drinks menu, since that is what guests want while seated. Put events, food trucks and merch one tap further in.
A plain page with big text loads fast in a dim room with weak signal. Avoid downloads that open a heavy PDF when a short page would do.
- Use one code on tables for the menu and another at the door for events.
- Put a short line of text under the code, such as "Scan for what's on tap".
Where is the best place to put a QR code in a bar?
Coasters, table tents and the bar top are the places people already look at. Keep the code away from spots that get wet, since moisture and condensation smear the print.
A laminated or coated card holds up to spills. Avoid glossy surfaces under spotlights, which can cause glare when a phone tries to read the code.
Can customers order from a QR code?
A code opens a web page, so it can open an ordering page if you have one from your point-of-sale provider. ThreeDollarQRCode does not take orders itself. It sends the scan to whichever page you choose.
Example signs
Each example code opens threedollarqrcode.com. Your code can open any page you choose.
Questions
Do coasters work for QR codes?
Yes, if the coaster is matte and the code is at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) square, dark on light. Test with a few phones in dim light before a big print run.
What happens when the beer list changes?
Edit the page your code points to, or change the address in your edit link. The printed codes keep working.
Do guests need an app?
No. Modern phone cameras read QR codes directly.
Can I count how many people scan?
Yes. Your order page shows a scan count for each code.
Is it worth $3 for one code?
A single code on every table tent, coaster and poster costs $3 once. Printing is your real cost, so it is worth being able to change the destination.
