How to make a QR code for your Instagram profile
Printed material rarely has room for a handle that is easy to type. A code that opens your profile turns every card, bag and window into a follow button.
Instagram also has its own profile code inside the app. This page explains when to use ours instead.
How do I make a QR code for my Instagram profile?
Your profile link is usually instagram.com followed by your username. Open it in a browser to check it, then make a code that opens that link.
- Use your public username, not a private link.
- Print the handle next to the code too.
- Test on a phone that is not signed in to your account.
Instagram's own QR code or a separate one?
Instagram lets you generate a code for your profile inside the app. It is convenient, but it is a fixed code and its look is Instagram's. A separate dynamic code lets you change where it points, for example to a campaign page, a link-in-bio page, or a new account name.
Where should the code go?
On packaging, receipts, shop windows, table signs, business cards, and at events. Add a reason to follow, such as "Daily specials" or "See our work".
Questions
What if I change my username?
Update the destination of the dynamic code, and the printed code still works.
Can the code open a specific post?
Yes. Use the post's link.
Do people need an account to see my profile?
Public profiles can usually be viewed in a browser, but Instagram may ask visitors to sign in.
Cost?
$3 once per code.
Does the code work if my account is private?
Visitors need to request to follow, so a public profile works better for print.
Can I link to a hashtag or a location?
Yes, if it has a public web address.
