QR code scans but the page won't load
If the camera recognizes the code and offers a link but the page does not open, the code is fine. The problem is the link or the connection.
Check these in order.
Is the link correct?
Tap the banner or copy the address and read it carefully. A typo, a missing https:// or an old address will lead nowhere.
- Test the exact address in a browser.
- For a dynamic code, correct the destination with your edit link.
Is the website working?
Open the address on another device. If it also fails, the site is down or the page moved.
Is it a connection issue?
Weak mobile data or a captive Wi-Fi login page can stop a page loading. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and try again.
Does the link need a login or an app?
Some links open only in a particular app or need a login. Use a public page for a printed code.
Questions
Can I fix it without reprinting?
With a dynamic code, yes. Change the destination.
Why does it open in the wrong app?
Some links hand off to an app if installed. Use a plain web page.
Why do I get a security warning?
The site's certificate may be broken, or the page may be unsafe. Do not proceed if unsure.
Is this a QR code problem?
No. The code worked. The page is the issue.
What should I test before printing?
Scan with two phones, once on Wi-Fi and once on mobile data.
